We carry a large and varied
stock of Normans work and usually have fresh work made every 4-6 weeks and try to maintain
around 50 pieces in stock plus perfume bottles and paperweights. . In addition we also now
stock work by Normans wife, Lesley Clarke.
Norman Stuart Clarke ,
one of Britain's leading artist
glassblowers, worked for many years from his studio and gallery near St. Ives,
Cornwall but in 2004 he and Lesley
moved house and studio to France.
Pure crystal glass is melted in the furnace and coloured glass is arranged on steel
benches. The molten glass is gathered from the furnace on blowing irons and rolled onto
pre-arranged coloured glass. The piece is then re-heated in the 'Glory Hole' and blown
into its final form using natural forces of gravity and rotation.
Norman is influenced by the
beauty of Cornwall, its
rushing waves, sunlight through the trees and the silent presence of standing
stones. Norman's painterly approach to glass also explores the inner realms of dreams,
illusions and realities. His work is exhibited worldwide and is included in many public
and private collections.
The Salt Gallery stocks a range of his work from paper-weights and perfume bottles to
vases, bowls, flasks, bottles which are both collected and also make the perfect special
